AI and Legal Ethics: What Every Lawyer Needs to Know (Program 2 of 3)
Many lawyers are using AI (Artificial Intelligence) without fully understanding where the ethical risks are. This program works through the eight areas of professional responsibility identified in ABA Formal Opinion 512, including competence, confidentiality, candor, supervision, and fees, using real sanctions cases, privilege decisions, and practical examples. Every risk covered maps to an ethics rule lawyers already know.

SPEAKER:
Jennifer Ellis is a Pennsylvania attorney and legal technology consultant whose work focuses on ethics, law practice management, and the practical use of technology in legal practice. She works with lawyers and legal organizations on technology selection and implementation, website and content strategy, professional responsibility issues, and continuing legal education programming. She frequently speaks and writes on legal ethics, cybersecurity, and the use of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, in legal practice.
Jennifer has more than 25 years of experience at the intersection of law, technology, and legal education. She has worked closely with bar associations and legal education organizations at the state and national level, including serving as founding co-chair of the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s technology committee and on multiple ABA boards. She has planned, developed, and presented CLE programs for lawyers at all stages of practice, and is the author of an ABA publication on law firm websites.
Her work is grounded in real-world experience with solo practitioners and small firms, where time, resources, and ethical risk must be balanced carefully. She focuses on practical solutions that fit the realities of legal practice, rather than aspirational or marketing-driven approaches.
