2025 Oklahoma Access to Justice Summit: Rethinking Rural Legal Access Oklahomans in rural communities face additional challenges when it comes to accessing justice based solely upon their geographic location. Nearly two-thirds of Oklahoma counties have fewer than 1.5 lawyers per 1,000 residents, leaving many Oklahomans with the option of traveling long distances to access legal help or forego any legal help. Chevron has long been a cornerstone in administrative law, guiding how courts defer to administrative agencies' interpretations of statutes they administer. However, the Supreme Court's recent ruling has altered this landscape, introducing new challenges and opportunities for legal practitioners.   SPEAKER:  Kieran D. Maye, Jr. Kieran D. Maye, Jr. is the founding member of the Maye Law Firm in Edmond Oklahoma.  Mr. Maye has authored many articles published in the Oklahoma Bar Association Journal, the Oklahoma City University Law Review and the Oklahoma County Bar Association Briefcase. His writings usually discuss recent rulings or issues before the United States Supreme Court and the Rules of Evidence.  Since 2003, Mr. Maye has been an Adjunct Professor of Law at Oklahoma City University College of Law where he has taught Professional Responsibility, Evidence, Texas Civil Procedure, Federal Jurisdiction, Commercial Paper, and Current Topics in Constitutional Law.  Since 2008, Mr. Maye has been a featured presenter at the Oklahoma Judicial Conference. This meeting is an assembly of the entire Oklahoma Judiciary.
