  Fines, Fees, and Due Process - An Update for Defendants' Rights Under HB 2259   The legislature significantly amended the court debt collection process in 2023, making it less likely defendants will be incarcerated for poverty.  This program will summarize the changes and provide advocacy tools to help attorneys advocate for relief from court debt for their clients.   SPEAKER:  Ed Wunch, Legal Aid Services of Oklahoma, Inc. Ed Wunch is a Staff Attorney with Legal Aid Services of Oklahoma, Inc. (LASO), serving in that capacity since 2016. Mr. Wunch’s practice covers a number of areas including criminal justice debt, family law, consumer law, and housing. Mr. Wunch serves as an At-Large member of LASO's Leadership Team, participating in ad hoc appeal and impact case decision committees. Mr. Wunch has also served as the OBA Law Day Committee Chair since 2020.Mr. Wunch received his Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2010. Siegel, LLC  Office Administrator, Integrated Technology Services, LLC Pam has 27 years of experience in the legal field representing both plaintiffs and defendants. She is known for her attention to detail, her ability to anticipate an attorney’s needs, and her dedication to obtaining the best results for clients, making her an extremely valuable member of the Firm’s team. Pam first worked with Dan Siegel at his prior firm, where she assisted him in the representation of injured plaintiffs in pharmaceutical liability cases and class actions. Years later, Pam was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to join Dan at his firms in Havertown, not far from her home. Pam’s professional activities include co-authoring three books, The Ultimate Guide to Adobe Acrobat DC (1st and 2nd editions) and Checklists for Lawyers, for the American Bar Association’s Law Practice Division.   Trust Accounting Essentials   The need to handle with scrupulous care funds entrusted to a lawyer by a client or third person should be self-evident. Nonetheless, there are cases where practicing lawyers, either inadvertently or intentionally, mishandle trust funds, subjecting clients and third persons to the risk of economic hardship and undermining public confidence in the legal profession.
