DESCRIPTION

The Inside Brief: The Oklahoma City Bombing Trial

Timothy McVeigh bombed the Alfred P. Murrah federal building in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on April 19th 1995, killing 168 men, women and children; and injuring hundreds of others in the worst act of domestic terrorism in the history of the United States. As United States District Court Judge David L. Russell explains in featured commentary: “These were evil men who committed a heinous act, yet they got a trial, as fair a trial as America can give to its citizens.”

The Oklahoma City Bombing Trial is not only a quintessential event in the history of American jurisprudence; it also provides an extraordinary opportunity for attorneys in all areas of practice to learn from events that are usually forever cloaked—but uncloaked here because Timothy McVeigh waived his attorney client privilege before his execution. Stephen Jones, the man appointed to defend McVeigh, reveals the factual and strategic elements of McVeigh’s trial in a compelling story of unprecedented depth—including events that have never before been published.

With commentary from the judge who appointed Stephen Jones to defend Timothy McVeigh (Hon. David L. Russell), and the Emmy Award winning journalist who covered the bombing and subsequent trial (Bob Jamieson, ABC News-retired); this interview of Stephen Jones, shot on location in journalistic style--by lawyers for lawyers-- provides a singular opportunity to learn the first-hand, universal lessons that can come only from Stephen Jones--the man who was charged with defending the most hated man in America
